Inspiration

We were not meant to work…

…for a living. We are meant to LIVE for a living!

We are not meant to drive business metrics. To deliver on a mission or vision. We are not meant to clock in at 8am and leave at god knows what time or to allow the faults, frustrations and worries of the day dwell in our minds when picking up our kids or spending time with those that are important to us.

Your jobs may be important to the day to day but your job is NOT the reason you are here.

What we were meant to do…

We were put on this earth to affect other peoples lives. Our sole purpose is to build, cultivate, commune and love each other!

YOU are the reason you are here! WE are the reason we are here!

Don’t forget that. Life may get you down but don’t allow that small time of frustration and meaningless moment of nothing get in the way of doing for others.

We were meant to love each other!

The following is a short film from Matt Morris’s  Mr. Happy Man which tells the story of 88-year-old Johnny Barnes, a Hamilton, Bermuda native who spends six hours every day, “come rain or shine,” standing at a local intersection telling drivers he loves them. And oh how they do love him back!

It is always amazing to me the individuals I come across with the mindset of

“I don’t need you, I don’t need anyone, I can do this all by myself” or

“It was me. No one helped me. I did it on my own”

I do not argue that we have a power within us to overcome all odds if we choose to unleash it. That regardless of the circumstances we face, that we can overcome as long as we have an attitude and faith in our own ability. However, I do not believe that we can do everything on our own. Our struggles, accomplishments, our losses and victories in our battle of life is contributed to and from others.

There is something about an audience

There is something about others encouragement and support that builds us up. That makes us proud and accomplish more. There is power in the collective!

In the video below Budweiser Canada surprises two recreational league hockey teams from Port Credit, Ontario, with professional-league-grade theatrics, including a flock of fans, play-by-play commentary, and other accouterments of a professional game.

THINK more. Talk Less

I have started to post shorter and shorter articles on this site. The reason has a purpose. The reason is on purpose.

I am trying, for myself, to work on THINKing more and talking less. Be able to fully understand the concepts I want to convey while translating those concepts for others to fully grasp, understand and relate to those ideas.

Dan Roam is the author of BLAH BLAH BLAH and explains why we talk too much. He also has a nice way of illustrating how we can use our natural visual advantage that the brain gives us to become better problem solvers. Using the concept of “Vivid Thinking” is one way of becoming better communicators and story tellers.

Here are two videos that walk through these ideas:

Leadership Creates Momentum (Inspiring Video)

Whether or not you win this thing, you got to decide how you are going to walk out of here when it is all said and done!

We all need momentum. It is in the moments, however brief or long, that we have an opportunity to create that momentum. It is not only others that help us “become”, but we as individuals that discover who we ‘are’ and ‘will be’. The following is a video promo from Versus, essentially a spot for  NBCsports. I love videos such as these because they usually pull out from inside of us that have often been dormant.

We were never meant to be dormant. We are meant to have momentum!

The clock is ticking… let’s see what you’ve got

The Transcript from this video:

Whether or not you win this thing, you got to decide how you are going to walk out of here when it is all said and done, cause the game is going to go on. And there is only one rule you are going to know about; there are no second chances.

There is only this moment, and the next moment. Every one of those moments is a test that you get to take one time, and only one time.

So if you see an opening; tear into it! If you get a shot at victory make damn sure you take it. Seize that moment.

That moment is a crossroads where everything you want will collide with everything standing in your way. You’ve got momentum at your back. Fear and doubt are a freight train thundering straight at you.

And all you got, the only difference between making history and being history, the only thing, the only thing that you can count on in any given moment is YOU!

It’s you vs. them, you vs. no, you vs. can’t, you vs. next year, last year, statistics, excuses. It’s you vs. history. You vs. the odds. It’s you vs. second place.

The clock is ticking… let’s see what you’ve got.
