Let me ask you this: Who Are You?
Many of us can say an ‘elevator pitch’ that is typically referred to so often in networking and coaching circles. When planning and searching for a career, others and even ourselves, would like an individual to get to the point. I am often one of the people on either end of this question. Yet often we know exactly who we are. Often we have no idea exactly who we are. Knowing this, we are still asked and ask the question. The answer we are given and give delicately depends on what point we have arrived in our lives.
The COMMON Question: Tell me who you are + tell me what you can do + tell me what you want? These questions can be transactional.
Yet every so often we should be asking:
The PROPOSED Question: What would you like to do + What can I do to help? These questions can be transformational.
As we begin the week, from what some are experiencing as a grand and beautiful weekend, take a moment to ask yourself these questions. Take some time to get to know the people around you outside of results, deadlines, task and direct/dotted line responsibilities. Take a look at the video, it is only 5 minutes and will encourage you to ask yourself some questions that you usually do not want or think to ask.
So what questions should we be asking each other and ourselves? I would be interested to hear your thoughts!
